Glossary

ABC Player

An ABC player is usually a very predictable poker player, it's very easy to guess his game play by watching his moves and following his face and body language. An ABC player knows how to play poker by the rules but missing the whole idea of the psychology in the game.

Ace High

A poker hand with no pairs and one Ace. In a Poker game, an Ace High ranks higher than any hand with no high cards but lower than one pair. A player with Ace High might win in a short game.

Ace to Five low

A manner of evaluation low poker hands used in low hands poker games. It is the most widespread method for ranking low hands in poker in the United States. In ace-to-five low, straights and flushes are ignored, and aces play as the lowest game card.

Ace to Six low:

A manner of evaluation low poker hands used in low hands poker games. In ace-to-six low, you will not want to have straights and flushes as they ranks high (and makes you lose). Aces ranks as the lowest game card in the game.

Aces Up:

A pair of aces with one other pair.

Active Player:

A poker player who have called and equaled all the bets involved so far in the poker game pot. In a case of side pots, could be that an all-in player might be active only in few of the game pots.
When playing online poker game, An "Active Player" is also refer to a player that still part of the poker game and not necessary called or equaled all the bets.

Action

1. When it's a player turn to make he's poker move and he need to decide about he's Action, he's got a few actions he can take. Thee poker plays that the poker player can choose called: Call , Check, Fold or Raise. Those moves he need to choose from referred as Action. Phrase example: "it's your action" 2. Another way to use the word action in poker game (and gambling in general) is when you referring the poker game or the gambling as the action.

Action Button:

A bet that must be posted, blind, in a seven-card stud high-low game, by the winner of a scoop pot above a certain size, rather than just a call of the original forced bet.

Action jackson:

A poker phrase used when a player's first poker hand is an Ace-Jack hand.

Aggressive Action:

An act in witch one player is raising a bet very high so that all the other poker players are being forced to fold.

All-in:

To either having bet or call all of your current chips in a hand. Usually in a poker game, a player may not buy more chips than he already have during a hand. If you don't have enough chips to call a bet, you may go all in and bet your chips against the same amount of chips of your opponent, that if you win you get the amount of chips you have multiplied by the number of players (rest of the pot money goes to second best). After an all in bet, a side pot may be created, in which the all-in player won't be an active player.

Ante:

Ante : A forced small amount of bet, paid by each poker player before each hand, for the sake of seeding the pot. Ante is used mostly in stud poker games, whereas Texas Hold'em games uses Blinds to get some initial money in the pot (Texas Hold'em tournaments might use Ante in late stages). One of the purposes of the Ante is being a "tax" for playing so that poker players would not fold until they have a good hand rank.
